FAQ
Question:
Into which class should I enter my car?
The sheer number of classes set up for a JCNA-sanctioned Concours is quite impressive. There are currently 44 classes spanning the 3 main nationally recognized JCNA Divisions in which you may enter your car; these being Driven, Champion and Special. Additionally, JCSNE has it own local 'Division', if you will: Enthusiast. Plus we have a class for non Jaguar-powered cars and the Car Corral for those who would like to sell their cars. All told, there are 49 classes available to enter a car.
With all these possibilities, it'd sure be nice if you knew before you showed up at the registration table (or online decision point) what Division and Class is right for you. We'll try to answer that here, as briefly as we can.
First, it's important to realize that entries in the 3 JCNA Divisions are scrutinized by a team of judges according to very detailed and comprehensive authenticity guides and cleanliness criteria. Scoring is by making deductions against a 'perfect' car and tallying them on several score sheets.
In the case of the Champion and Special Divisions, everything in the car (with the exception of the underbody) is judged. In the Driven Division, the judges do not look under the hood (or bonnet) or peer into the trunk (boot); presumably since the car is 'driven' it would be hard to have a pristine engine bay (or even trunk, perhaps). Regardless of where they look (or don't look as the case may be), the judges deduct points and fractions of points for anything that is not authentic to the particular model, and any little thing that isn't perfectly spotless. Chapter II, titled Entry Eligibility, Divisions and Classes, can be viewed here.
The cars in the 3 classes comprising the Enthusiast Division are not judged, instead relying on the popular vote of all the entrants and their companions/guests. So here authenticity is not the 'be all end all' that it is in the JCNA judged divisions, and neither is absolute cleanliness. Entrants vote for what they like, but they are all Jaguar owners, so don't take too many liberties with your Jaguar (no 22 inchers.... ).
If you have a non Jaguar-powered car (this is meant to include Jaguars with Chevy power, for example), then this is the class for you. We encourage owners of interesting cars to enter this class since everyone appreciates something unusual, unique or collectible.
Lastly, the cars in the 'Car Corral' are 'For Sale' and, needless to say, are ineligible for an award.
